91 pts – Wine Enthusiast
Our 2015 Pinot Noir is from the Dutton Ranch property outside Sebastopol, California, in the Russian River Valley AVA (Green Valley sub-appellation). The 26 acre “Widdoes” Vineyard property, located just off of Green Valley Road in Sebastopol, produces gold-standard wines for winery as well as Patz& Hall , Capieux Vineyards, and DuMOL Winery. The resulting wine (Inspired by the classical French Burgundy region where Pinot Noir has been grown since the 14th Century) is medium, full-body in color – with deep berry notes of red & black cherry.
WINEMAKER’S REVIEW
The ’15 is right in line and sensational follow up to the 2014! Instantly on the nose, red fruit and bright strawberry wafts from the glass. The aromatics are as clean as they are striking. There is something beautiful in the nature of Pinot and 2015 season itself. In the 4th year of a severe drought, non-irrigated, old vines such as this one were put to the grueling task of existing without much water. Yields were down, clusters were small and lightly numbered. The grapes were picked on 9/8/15 at 24.4 Deg. Brix. We used Native yeast fermentation and native malolactic. It was an incredibly concentrated year that you can see in the depth of mouth-feel and structure in the wine. This is one for the cellar as well, spanning 15 years or more at proper temperature!
