Description
94 pts – Wine Enthusiast magazine: “Crayon wax, pencil shavings and red currant highlight this brightly structured and powerfully ripe wine, a worthy representative of the mountain site. The earthy fruit is complemented by a light sprinkling of clove, sage and cedar, while strong, chalky tannins provide a substantial mouthfeel of graceful concentration.”
This is a very vibrant wine from an incredibly successful year upon the famed Stagecoach Mountain property, located East of the Silverado Trail. Developed in the early 1990’s by legendary grape grower, Jan Krupp, our hearty cabernet vines are grown at an elevation of 1200+ feet above the Napa Valley floor, in the Atlas Peak district. The difficult, and incredibly rocky and often steep terrain makes for amazingly complex and multidimensional wines known for their sharp sophistication and longevity in the wine cellar.
WINEMAKER’S REVIEW
Beginning beneath a black veil and smattering wafts of layered 100% new French Oak vanillin, this Cabernet shows finesse and support with a broad spectrum of red fruit preserves, hot cinnamon candle wax, crushed rock, and a variety of Christmas spice. The palate is certainly youthful. The powerful flavors are striking and immediately grab your attention! As the bright raspberry and black cherry fruit unveils itself, there is lovely support coming from a sturdy backbone of lasting tannin. I appreciate this fine Cabernet perhaps the most for its upside potential in aging. I believe cellared correctly, this beautiful wine will go 25 years or longer.
